Year 11's Shootout Heartbreak in District Final!

Following Thursday's success against John Willmott, the year 11's had a quick turnaround for their Birmingham super cup final which was played at Bodymoor Heath, Aston Villa's training ground.

Arthur Terry took the lead early through Michael Benson but were pegged back immediately after kick off. The game ebbed and flowed with Arthur Terry creating more chances before Chris Ellis and James Briggs made it 3-1 at half time.

Arthur Terry scored early into the second half through Jake Noone and then pressed the self destruct button conceding 3 soft goals in 15 second half minutes. 4-4 at the end of normal time.

Both teams pressed for a winner in extra time but neither team could find one. On to penalties. Unfortunately Terry missed their first penalty and Handsworth made no mistake in converting their 5 spot kicks.

Well done to Handsworth Grammar school on their success.

Year 11's reach Bodymoor Heath!!

Year 11's booked their place at Bodymoor Heath with a strong 2-1 win against favourites John Willmott on Thursday evening.

Arthur Terry started poorly and built into the game as it progressed. Willmott saw quite a lot of the ball and a defensive error was kept out at close range by Kieran Swabey in goal. As Arthur Terry started to press higher up the pitch the contest evened out. Terry created a few good opening down both wings and after Michael Benson won the ball in the centre of the field, Henry Harris outmuscled the centre back and cooly slotted the ball past the keeper. Willmott kept pressing but the back 4 kept a clean sheet until half time.

Half Time: 1-0

As the second half kicked off Arthur Terry made their intentions clear by pressing further up the pitch causing Willmott to make mistakes. A foul in the middle of the park allowed a set piece to be delivered by Jeeves and after a defensive mix up a well struck volley by Jake Noone arrowed into the top corner. Cue pandemonium and a mass pile on involving the whole team. From this point on Willmott were knocking on the door but we're kept at bay by a fantastic double save by Kieran. Eventually Willmott's pressure paid off and they finally scored with about 10 minutes left. From this point Arthur Terry defended resolutely and ensured their passage to the final on Monday evening.

Full time: 2-1

A strong defensive display from Alfie, Scott, Jamie, Ollie and Jacob was backed up by the terrific Kieran in Goal. The midfield battled well with a stand out performance from Michael Benson who headed everything he possibly could! The strikers chased and pressured for the whole game and set the tone for the rest of the team. All in all a very good team performance topped off with a goal worthy of winning any game by Jake.

Well done lads.

Roll on Monday!
