From September 2016 post-16 students will have the opportunity to pursue their interest in Sport by opting for our BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sport. The course is a broad basis of study for the sport
sector.
This qualification is designed to support
progression to higher education when
taken as part of a programme of study
that includes other appropriate BTEC
Nationals or A Levels.
The three mandatory units are shown above. Students will then complete Unit 6 - Sports Psychology as the optional unit, giving them the required 360 credits to complete the course. |
Unit 1 and 2 are assessed externally. The details of how each of these units are assessed is shown in the image below.

Units 3 and 6 are assessed internally where students are required to complete a range of assignments in order to meet the unit criteria. These can be met at Pass, Merit or Distinction level.
Year 12 - Course Structure
At Year 12 students will study Unit 1 (Anatomy and Physiology, mandatory) and Unit 3 (Professional Development in the Sports Industry, mandatory).
Year 13 - Course Structure
At Year 13 students will study Unit 2 (Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Wellbeing, mandatory) and Unit 6 (Sports Psychology, optional unit choice).
