Boys U15 Football team reach the District Cup Final!!

Huge congratulations to the Y10 football team who have once again reached the ESS District cup final!  This is a title that they have won on two previous occasions in 2012 and 2014, and will be hoping to win again when the final is played on Wednesday 18th March at Aston Villa's Bodymoor Heath Training Ground.

NB: Final opponents will be the winners of Great Barr vs. Bishop Walsh

The boys secured their place in this season's final by defeating local Sutton school Plantsbrook 2-0, in a semi-final match that was played at Sutton Town FC's home ground at Coles Lane today.

Two second-half strikes from Josiah Francis got the goals, but vital contributions came from all over the pitch to help secure the win for the U15 team!  Robert Mooring made a superb debut in CM, making excellent tackles to stifle the opposition throughout the entire game!  Alex Thompson at RB was another man of the match contender, with his brilliant marauding forward runs and excellent defensive work.  As well as thwarting a penalty in the first-half, GK Dylan Mandaracas also produced two absolutely 'world-class' saves to keep a clean sheet and prevent a late rally from the opposition to get back into the game.

Note: The game was also doubled as a league match, which means that the Y10 team have now completed all of their league games for the season.  The table below shows that the U15 team currently hold first place and can only be caught by Great Barr (...who are the only team to be beat the Arthur Terry U15's in the league this season).

Outstanding Performances from Arthur Terry Indoor Athletics Teams!

Arthur Terry School Girls Athletics Teams following their success at the Sutton Indoor Athletics Competition.

The week beginning Monday 19th January, Arthur Terry School hosted the Sutton Schools Indoor Athletics competition. The event is an opportunity for schools to qualify for the Birmingham competition held at the NIA a little later in the year.

On Tuesday 20th January, the boys event took place. With the late withdrawal of two teams, Arthur Terry would be competing against North Birmingham Academy, Fairfax, John Wilmott, Highclare and Bishop Vesey at the event.

The Year 7 Athletics team were embarking upon their first competition since arriving at secondary school. The students did not disappoint! A combination of track events (Sprints, Longer Distance, Obstacle Relay and Sprint Relays) and Field Events (Speed Bounce, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put and Vertical Jump) saw the team finish in 1st place with 108 points, 22 points clear of second-placed Fairfax.
Year 7 Athletics Team: Kai Woods, Oliver Clayton, Benjamin Smith, Pharrell Wallace-Jones, Jack Nation, Joshua Edwards and Matthew Funge.

The same event saw the Year 8 competition also taking place. A hotly contested event was won by Fairfax Year 8’s (112 Points), closely followed by John Wilmott (108 Points) and Arthur Terry and Bishop Vesey (106 Points). The year 8 boys competition would turn out to be the closest run event of the week, with 6 points separating the top 4 teams!
Year 8 Athletics Team: Tom Greenway, Jack Canning, Harry Canning, Jack Hawkins, Tom Cooksey, Michael Atkins and Samuel Taylor.

On Thursday 22nd January, Arthur Terry this time played host to the Girls competition, again for Year 7 and 8. The event saw a full quota of teams arrive, consisting of Arthur Terry, Sutton Girls, Plantsbrook, John Wilmott, Bishop Walsh, North Birmingham Academy, Highclare and Fairfax.

The Arthur Terry Year 7 team similar to their male counterparts were taking place in their first Athletics competition, but this in no way deterred them! The team fought off some fierce competition to finish the event in first place with 138 points!! Arthur Terry performed formidably in both Track and Field events to be crowned champions! They finished ahead of Sutton Girls (126 Points) and John Wilmott (114 Points).
Year 7 Girls Athletics Team: Grace Williams, Isobel Millington, Lauren Bowman, Ella Wright, Jessica Dunn, Vicky Ecclestone and Aaliyah Lloyd.

The same night, the Year 8 event also took place. Some members of the Year 8 team had competed in the indoor event previously, so knew the level of competition that would face them. Similar to the Year 7 team, they took this all in their stride. Outstanding performance in both track and field events saw the Arthur Terry Year 8 team also crowned as champions with 132 points! They saw off fierce competition from John Wilmott (122 Points) and Sutton Girls (120 Points).

Year 8 Team: Maddie Richards, Mollie Merson, Miasie Merson, Elley Criddle and Regan Keating.

Both the boys and girls events were superbly contested. ALL students competed with heart and determination and made for excellent viewing for those who attended. Arthur Terry School can now look forward to having three teams attend the finals at the NIA a little later in the year!
