On 12th May the Arthur Terry Year 9 Football team competed in the Birmingham Schools Senior Football Cup Final.  Having qualified, the Team and their Manager, Mr. John Byrne were extremely fortunate to travel to Villa Park where they were crowned champions and presented with the All Birmingham U14 Trevor Gill Cup.   Excitement started to build for the boys as they went through to the home team changing rooms where they got ready to go out onto the pitch following a pre match pep talk from team manager Mr Byrne.

Having already claimed the Erdington, Saltley and Sutton Coldfield district cup trophy with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over finalists Great Barr earlier this year, the Arthur Terry U14 team added the Birmingham Schools cup title to their season honours by defeating local rivals Bishop Walsh 2-1 in the final.

In this evenly contested match Arthur Terry had to come from behind to win the game and they completed this comeback with second half goals from striker Josiah Francis and an own goal that resulted from the pressure of partnering striker Sam Watts. Team manager John Byrne, Arthur Terry’s Head of PE said “The team have played fantastic football all season and despite leaving it quite late in the game, the boys showed great character to edge out the opposition, who also played excellent football throughout.

The experience of playing at Villa Park was an absolutely amazing occasion for everyone involved and it will definitely be a day that we will all remember!” There was a truly brilliant atmosphere with fantastic crowd support from parents who, its claimed made more noise than a sell out on a Saturday afternoon.
