York Crowned Athletics Champions on Sports Day 2015!

It was that time of year again last Friday (10th July) where hundreds of Arthur Terry students descended on Royal Sutton Coldfield Athletics Club (Wyndley) to compete for their houses in a range of track and field events on sports day!

2014 saw York take the crown of sports day champions, so the weight of expectation was on them once again to deliver.

Boys and girls from Years 7, 8 and 9 competed on the day and represented their house in their chosen events, with some students filling their individual quota and taking part in three events!

Track Events: 100m, 200m, 800m, pursuit relay, 4x100m relay and obstacle relay.

Field Events: Shot putt, vortex throw, long jump and accuracy throw.

FINAL STANDINGS! (points totals to be added shortly).

1st place - York - 603 pts
2nd place - Gloucester - 549 pts
3rd place - Hereford - 519 pts
4th place - Lincoln - 502 pts

Below you can see some pictures from the day! Well done to York on the successful defence of your sports day crown!

Arthur Terry in School Games Success!

Wednesday 8th July saw us take four teams over to King Edwards School (Edgbaston) to attend the finals of the Birmingham School Games Finals, and what a successful day it was!

We had girls teams from Year 7/8 in Rounders, Netball and Cricket as well as our Year 9 Softball team competing in their own respective competitions against some of the best schools in Birmingham. Each competition varied in terms of teams taking part, but there were at least 7-9 other teams competing in each competition, so the odds were not in our favor!

The students were absolutely exceptional in how they performed and also how they represented the school during the day. The absence of minibuses meant we took the 45 students involved to the event via train!

I am delighted to report that our Netball, Cricket and Rounders team's all achieved Silver medals (2nd place), with our Year 9 Softball team achieving Bronze medals (3rd place). ALL TEAMS achieved a top-three spot. Despite having no Gold medalists the teams did exceptionally well, crowned in the top three of all Birmingham schools in each area!

Weather was perfect for a full day of sports competitions! Here the Softball competition (foreground) and Cricket competition (background).

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL STUDENTS WHO TOOK PART IN THE EVENT AND WELL DONE ON YOUR SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS!

Sports Awards 2014/15

Monday 6th July saw the PE Department at Arthur Terry host the third of its' annual Sports Awards events. The event, which took place in the main hall gives us an opportunity to recognise and reward those students who have made an outstanding contribution in Physical Education throughout the year, be it practically or at GCSE/A-Level.

The event has been met with extremely positive comments from both students and parents and continues to move from strength to strength each year. Headteacher Mr Gill was in attendance to present the awards alongside various members of the Physical Education department speaking about each students prior to collecting their awards.

Below you can see a selection of our award winners, along with a list summarising all of our winners on the evening.
